The New Trend: Colored Skinny Jeans

Posted: December 14, 2011 in FaYo

The new trend that is making waves now is the skinny jeans.  And yes, before you can argue, it’s not the indigo one; it now comes in flashing colors like yellow, pink, shocking red, electric blue etc.  Deep pigmented colors are all the rage now. Since its fitting from the hips to the ankles, the look tends to emphasize fat hips and thighs. So you need to pay a little attention to balance the look.  The key is to coordinate it well.  Here are few ways on how you can wear the hot piece.

  • Let the tops be in neutral colors, preferably white, grey or black. Either wear it loose or let it skim your body, but never go for tight fitting tops with skinny jeans as it is very difficult to carry the look [ unless and until you have a figure to die for] .  Personally I feel a loose-fitting top in a neutral color is a perfect option for the colored skinny jeans.
  • Colored jeans have to be skinny. Do not wear them flared.
  • Since the color of the jeans is bright enough to draw attention, it is advisable that you keep the rest of the attire as simple as possible.  Do not opt for brightly colored accessories. Don’t over –accessorize too.  Go for just one statement piece like a great watch or silver hoop earrings. If you are carrying a tote bag, choose neutral colors like a black or tan.
  • If you prefer wearing more colors, restrict it to just three or fewer. For instance, a deep red top can be worn with a yellow and white striped shirt.   Do not wear flashy colors like red, blue or green together.
  • Colored jeans can make your legs appear shorter; hence choose shoes like wedges or pumps to elongate your legs.  But assure you keep your footwear in a neutral color, something that either complements your jeans or your top.  However, if you have long and thin legs you can opt for flat shoes or sandals as they are great with colored jeans.

Belts and Waists

Posted: October 27, 2011 in FaYo

A belt is more than just a simple accessory. If worn properly, they help to balance your shape and create a style statement. On the other hand, it can ruin your look if worn in the most inappropriate way. Here are few tips that will keep you looking good in your belt no matter what!

Curvy Waist:

Women with curvy waists can opt for thin to medium sized belts. A thin belt accentuates the waists and draws the attention to the curves, which is quite flattering. The belt can be a studded or a metallic one. Large ones generally take the attention away from the curviness of the figure, For making the most of your curves, always remember to highlight the waist and what’s better than a great belt…

Huge Waist:

Belts generally do not work for women with heavy waists. They draw attention to the waist, thereby highlighting the tummy – which can look frumpy. On the other hand, if you still prefer a belt to hold your pants or skirts, opt for a basic, plain, non-discreet belt. You can also wear a blouson top or a tunic, with a few inches pulled-up over the belt to form a tummy concealing look. A dark colored belt or matte-finished leather gives a slimming appearance. You need to stay away from big, colorful belts though.

Skinny or Petite Waist:

Play up your skinny waist with a narrow belt to make it look skinnier. A wide belt may not look proportionate for your figure as they will completely engulf you. You can go for a medium sized belt or a thin belt to keep your body in better proportion. Chain belts would also look good on you. Another option is to wear a broad belt in a soft fabric [avoid leather]. This helps you to gently add volume to the waist. Thin belts look great with tailored trousers.

Boyish Waist:

Boyish type figures generally remain the same throughout. There is no much difference between the waist and the hip. Well, belts are great at giving you shape. They give you the waist definition you never thought you had. A wide broad one would look quite flattering on boyish figures. High waist skirts and pants will accentuate your shape and draw attention to your waist. Multiple or layered look by combining two or three belts together will make your waist look curvier. Apart from accentuating the waist, this look can create a bold style statement too.

Heavy Hips:

If you are heavy on the hips it’s advisable to go for dark-colored low snug belts. Wear the belt slightly lower, not directly on the waist. This will help you cut down on the proportion between the waistline and the hips. If you’re wearing it on the waist, go for thinner belts but make sure it isn’t too tight. Another method is to wear a large belt right under the bust. This look is great for highlighting the bust and taking the attention away from large or heavy hips.

Wallets for Men

Posted: October 13, 2011 in FaYo

As we all know wallets maketh the man and they are always the best place to hold the cards and cash. Here are few useful tips on how a man’s wallet should be.

 Materials say a lot:

When it comes to wallets materials speak a lot. Different materials take on different aspects and you may want to go opt for a style that reflects your personality. In addition, go for a good quality one that will wear well. Before falling for the style and design check on the durability, as you would want some value for money. Leather wallets are always classy and you get ones that are water proof as well. Furthermore, there are leather wallets with a lot of metal work that is quite stylish. If you prefer less expensive ones, opt for materials made out of rubber, twill, nylon or vinyl.

Size Matters:

When it comes to size, understand what size you prefer to have. Too small or too big can ruin the look or be uncomfortable. If you wish to carry just cash and cards a small neat one with slots for cards and money should be your priority. The short square design bi-fold wallets [bi-fold wallets are the ones that consist of a single fold] is the most popular one if you prefer stuffing it in your back pocket. If you are carrying umpteen number of things or if your work requires a lot of travelling then a tall wallet like the passport wallet is the best choice. You can keep all your essential items like the plane ticket, passport, boarding pass or other documents neatly tucked in it. What’s more is that it looks really cool when you pull it out of your inner coat pocket.

Slots for wallets:

If you have many items to fit in like the keys, go for ones that have independent slots like the card slots, cash slots, identity card slots or the key slots. Slots assigned for different purposes can help you keep your things orderly and neat. Keep your wallet simple and classy without any flamboyant designs, colors or motifs. Colors also pay an important role. For men, black or brown colored wallets can be the best choice.

Avoid keeping your wallet bulky:

Avoid ones with coin pouch as they make the wallet appear quite bulky and it’s just not essential. Avoid zips as there really is no purpose. Do not overly stuff it with credit cards, money, papers etc. Making it too bulky looks very odd. Do not carry more than what’s needed in your wallet. Do remember, stuffing your wallet with numerous things and tucking it in your pocket can make your pant bulge, which is a big turn-off. The wallet should fit snugly into your pant pocket.

The next time you go for a wallet keep the above tips in mind and choose one that suits your needs accordingly.

The Slim Look

Posted: October 1, 2011 in FaYo

Opt for outfits that skim your body rather than the clingy ones. There is a misconception among many women that wearing tight clothes can make one appear slim. But it’s the other way around; tight or clingy outfits can make you look larger than you actually are.

Additionally, loose fitting clothes can also make you look large. The key is to opt for ones that fit your body – not too tight or too loose.

Long pendants, necklaces and chains can make your neck seem longer.  Tight or short ones can visually shorten your neck.

To elongate your physique, choose medium to high heels.

Nothing can beat black when it comes to slimming. However, you can play with colors in your accessories. For instance, a plain black outfit with a colorful stole or scarf can do the trick.

Avoid horizontal stripes; instead opt for vertical or diagonal ones. It gives the eye an up and down movement, making your silhouette appear taller and slimmer.

Avoid tight fitting pants that hug your thighs and hips. It can look drab and dowdy. The best cut for wide hips is boot cut pants, which have a slight flare at the bottom. They balance out your hips and create thin and long vertical lines.

The key is to downplay or camouflage the parts you prefer to hide and highlight your assets. For instance, you have large legs, choose dark colors pants or skirts and play with your tops by opting for a colorful one.
